Why our Sheldon day care center is different from the rest

Strong Start Early Care and Education Center is more than a daycare, we are a childhood education center that uses an inquiry-based curriculum. We believe that this curriculum fosters independent thought and problem solving skills that will enable a child to have an edge in the future.

We can’t even begin to imagine the world that our children, when grown, will inhabit. Technology is changing the way we live at a pace that is unparalleled in human history. Most of the information we can provide them will be superfluous or outdated by the time they reach maturity. Of course, the basics of liberal arts, math, and science will remain, but the processes through which people learn and by which they demonstrate their learning are changing at such a rapid rate that it is becoming increasingly important to emphasize how to learn rather than what they are learning.

It is widely believed that future challenges will rely on problem solving and the ability to teach yourself and these are two things that inquiry-based education prime children for. Being able to take what you have learned and apply it with maximum flexibility in new context will be key to success in the future.

One way that inquiry-based learning prepares children for the future is by fostering problem solving skills. Inquiry-based learning starts with a problem. Questions are posed, evidence is gathered and then, and only then, are solutions conceived of. In a traditional education system children are told what to think about a problem, not how to think about it and solve it themselves. It is essentially the difference between learning about science and learning to do science. Providing an inquiry-based education for your child is one way of giving them a strong edge for their future,  an education where they are rewarded for mindlessly accepting facts and figures will not.
